    You deserve to be happy.

Are you stuck feeling unhappy? You may be successful but feel like a fraud. This is actually very common and something that many people struggle with. Do you have trouble with anxiety, depression or relationships? The good news: the latest neuroscience research confirms that change is possible. It is possible to let go of thinking and behavior patterns that are preventing you from feeling joy.

Everything we go through - our thoughts, sensations, emotions, intentions and actions - is intertwined and can be confusing. I will ask you to help me understand what you experience and I will listen with openness and acceptance. Together we will work to untangle your experiences and make sense of them. Then we’ll work on creating the new patterns that can actually change your brain and move you toward greater happiness.

In addition to various forms of talk therapy, I also use other forms of therapy such as Internal Family Systems and Lifespan Integration to access places where my clients are stuck. See below for more about my approach to therapy.

If you have any questions or concerns about counseling/therapy, please call or text (206) 319-5220, or email rozandocounseling@gmail.com and I will be happy to discuss them with you. If I am not able to help you, chances are good that I will know someone who can.

  • Focus

I work with people from all walks of life with diverse challenges.

Here are a few of the areas I focus on:

    broken image

    Anxiety/Social Anxiety

We all deal with anxiety on some level. However, life is too short to constantly walk around with the feeling of not being good enough, expecting that something bad will happen, or just a general sense of uneasiness that interferes with your enjoyment of the time you have. In therapy, we can work on getting to the root of the problem and exploring tools that you can use now. It's possible to to ease the anxiety you feel and allow you to be present and enjoy your life.

Do you fear being scrutinized or judged? Do you have trouble with social and romantic relationships or just feel disconnected from others? It is possible to become more comfortable in social situations and to build the close connections we all want and need.

    Couples

Couples come to me seeking greater happiness and a sense of balance in their lives. Do you have the same arguments again and again? Do you feel lonely or disconnected even though you are part of a couple? I can help you to change destructive patterns, reconnect, and give your relationship a chance.

    Chronic Pain

Do you experience chronic pain? All pain is perceived in the brain. Thoughts, emotions, and actions can dial pain up or down. Every experience we have changes the structure and function of our brains. It is possible to change the brain away from chronic pain. This is a new and exciting area of research showing that these approaches to dealing with pain should not be considered alternative, they should be primary care. We can work together to come up with strategies to help decrease, and hopefully eliminate, chronic pain.

    I

  • Top down/Bottom up approach to therapy

This approach involves not only finding new ways to cope, but also looking for the root causes of how you are feeling and going from there to find healing.

    Top down

Working with your thoughts, focus and actions

    • This is often about changing the way you think and what you focus on. We examine your thinking, what you’re going through and what you can do to help yourself feel better using your thoughts, focus and actions.

    Bottom up

    What's under the surface?

    • This involves working with things that are under the level of the conscious mind. I use different kinds of more body based approaches. For example, we might start with an emotion and the feeling that you get in your body and see where that takes us. This often leads to something that’s been ignored or suppressed. Working with what we find this way can lead to unexpected ways to heal.

Since my first psychology class in high school, I've been hooked. I love learning about how we think and feel, what motivates us, the mind body connection, and how we can be happier. I continue to study Western psychology, neurobiology, mind body healing, and Eastern mindfulness and combine these in my therapy practice.
