    You deserve to be happy.

Are you stuck feeling unhappy? It is possible to let go of thinking and behavior patterns that are preventing you from feeling joy. When we’re young, we do the best we can to adapt to our inborn characteristics, relationships and experiences. The adaptations we’ve relied on, along with difficult situations in the present, may now be contributing to depression, anxiety and less than ideal relationships. The good news: the latest neuroscience research confirms that change is possible.

Everything we go through - our thoughts, sensations, emotions, intentions and actions - is intertwined and can be confusing. I will ask you to help me understand what you’re experiencing and I will listen with openness and acceptance. Together we will work to untangle your experiences and make sense of them. Then we’ll work on creating the new patterns that can actually change your brain and move you toward greater happiness.

In addition to various forms of talk therapy, I also use a newer form of therapy called Lifespan Integration. See below to find out more about the benefits of LI.

If you have any questions or concerns about counseling/therapy, please give me a call at (206) 319-5220 and I will be happy to discuss them with you. If I am not able to help you, chances are good that I will know someone who can.

  • Focus

I work with people from all walks of life with diverse challenges. Here are a few of the areas I focus on:

    Anxiety/Social Anxiety

We all deal with anxiety on some level. However, life is too short to constantly walk around with the feeling of not being good enough, expecting that something bad will happen, or just a general sense of uneasiness that interferes with your enjoyment of the time you have. In therapy, we can work on getting to the root of the problem and exploring tools that you can use now to ease the anxiety you feel and allow you to enjoy and be present in your life.

Do you fear being scrutinized or judged? Do you have trouble with social and romantic relationships or just feel disconnected from others? It is possible to become more comfortable in social situations and to build the close connections that we all want and need.

    .

    Couples

Couples come to me seeking greater happiness and a sense of balance in their lives. Do you have the same arguments again and again? Do you feel lonely or disconnected even though you are part of a couple? I can help you to change destructive patterns, reconnect, and give your relationship a chance.

    Parents and Families

I work with individual parents, as well as couples, to make sense of their own stories and to see how they fit within the story of their relationships. This not only helps parents to find greater happiness, research shows that this also improves the mental health and well-being of their children.

Would you like something different for your family? What would that look like? Families in a state of disconnection need a safe space to work things out. We will find out what family members would like to have in place of what they have now. While making sure that each person involved is heard and understood, we will work toward these new goals.

    Lifespan Integration

In addition to various methods of talk therapy, I also use a newer therapy called Lifespan Integration. The following is from the Lifespan Integration website:

Lifespan Integration is a gentle, body-based therapeutic method which heals without re-traumatizing. LI therapy facilitates rapid healing in people of all ages, and is effective with a wide range of therapeutic issues.

Lifespan Integration relies on the innate ability of the body-mind to heal itself. LI is body-based, and combines active imagination, the juxtaposition of ego states in time, and a visual time line of memories to facilitate neural integration and rapid healing.

After LI therapy, people find themselves spontaneously reacting to current stressors in more age appropriate ways. Clients who begin LI therapy with memory gaps are eventually able to connect the pieces of their lives into a coherent whole. Clients who have completed Lifespan Integration therapy report that they feel better about life, are more self-accepting, and are better able to enjoy their intimate relationships.
